Washtenaw Community College – Gold Leed Certification
DESIGN AWARD WINNER – INNOVATIVE ARCHITECTURE AWARDS
Striving for LEED certification was the primary goal when planning and building the new Health & Fitness Center at Washtenaw Community College. Not only did they go for Gold-level LEED certification and achieve that, they were also declared a Winner in the 2008 Innovative Architecture Design Awards.

The 6,600 square foot natatorium features a co-ed whirlpool, a 25- yard, five-lane lap pool a 92-degree large activity /therapy pool and, of course, Salt Pure® Automated systems on all bodies of water.
Greg Hanby, Executive Director, pointed out that the decision to go Salt Pure®,was made pretty much exclusively based on them seeking LEED certification. They wanted a pool with fewer chemicals added.
“In a town with a lot of pools, we get a ton of favorable feedback that people love our pool. They like the fact that they don’t smell like chlorine, they love the fact that it physically feels better than a normal chlorine pool, so for us that’s just been huge.”
How about working with the TMI model of support, as opposed to local service?
“Phone support has been just great, Stacey has responded well to email, and even Timothy, the President will respond if Stacey is not able to. While local service would be nice, it has worked out because TMI has such a strong remote support program.”
