CPO® Certification - The National Swimming Pool Foundation® (NSPF®) is a non-profit foundation whose mission is to encourage healthier living through aquatic education and research. The Certified Pool Operator® course through the NSPF® is the only nationally recognized-training program for the commercial pool or spa operator. Successful completion of this
two-day course earns the professional pool operator a five-year certification. This program helps pool operators and health officials understand how to more safely operate and maintain the pool/spa more efficiency.

WHO SHOULD BECOME CERTIFIED AS A CPO®?
Washington State Health Codes specify that “Every pool shall be under the supervision of a person who is fully capable of and shall assume responsibility for, compliance with all the requirements relating to pool operation, maintenance and safety of bathers.”

ANSI/NSPI Commercial Swimming Pool & Spa Standards specify that “both existing and new public swimming pools (and spas) shall be maintained under the supervision and direction of a properly trained operator who shall be responsible for the sanitation, safety and proper maintenance of the pool, (spa) and shall be responsible for all physical amdn mechanical equipment and be certified…” (ANSI/NSPI-1,2003; ANSI/NSPI-2,1999, Article XX)
