2. How much will it cost to convert to Salt Pure® Water?

Your pool size and use determine the cost of conversion. Fill out our evaluation sheet to receive a detailed bid. Most of the work can be performed in-house by your maintenance staff. The amount of salt required for the initial start-up is based upon your pool gallonage.

3. How much will the Salt Pure® system cost to run?

Very little. The electrical draw on our largest unit is approximately8.5 (@ 220v). Salt can be purchased in 40 lb. or 50 lb. bags and can run anywhere from $3.00 to $11.00 per 50 lbs. depending on where your facility is located and from whom you buy your salt. Salt is not consumed in the process so you will only need to replace salt lost with water loss. (backwashing). Annual salt costs are therefore minimal.

4. What do I have to change in my pump room in order to convert to a Salt Pure® system?

Nothing. Normally, we are simply adding 3 pieces of equipment. One-the cell- as a simple by-pass off of the return line and two-Control Box and Power Supply-on the pump room wall. The complexity of the installation is relative to the size and use of the pool.

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

5. How difficult is it to install a Salt Pure® system?

We would compare it to installing a pool pump. A typical X-LCG installation can take two people, two to six hours, including electrical. Larger pools will require more time determined by the number and size of the units designed for your pool.

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

6. Is it compatible with my current Automatic Controller?

It may be. Depending on how old your Automatic Controller system is, and which model you have. As Salt Pure® has become more popular we are seeing more controller manufacturers claiming that their systems are compatible. To date, a number of manufacturers state that their systems are compatible. Some older models may have a problem.

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

7. What kind of maintenance can I expect with my Salt Pure® system?

About 30 – 50% less than you do now. You will continue to test your pool water in the same way as you currently test.

To check for Salt content in your water, TMI has a One Touch Salinity Meter. The cell needs to be inspected once or twice per year (depending on your water hardness). This entails removing the union from the top of the cell for a visual inspection only.

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

8. Is it approved by my Local/ State Health Department?

It is approved to NSF-50 standards and ETL approved . Most states accept these standards.

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

9. Will I still test my water in the same way?

Yes.

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

10. How much Salt will my pool/spa consume on an ongoing basis?

This is directly proportional to the amount of water you backwash to clean your filters. One 75,000 gallon indoor pool reports using around 1 ½ lbs. Per day or one 50 lb. bag every 4 – 5 weeks.

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

11. What type of salt do I need to use?

We recommend 99.9% pure granulated (NACL) salt without additives such as iodine, prussiate of soda (anti-caking agent) or other such additives.

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

12. Where do I buy my Salt?

Salt is usually available at most bulk food distributor outlets; Pool Stores ( more expensive) wholesale clubs and other large “big Box” stores and animal feed stores.

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

13. How do I test for salt in the water?

With a TMI supplied Conductivity Pocket tester

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

14. What chemicals will I continue to use with the Salt Pure® system?

All your water balance chemicals for pH, Total Alkalinity and Calcium Hardness.

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

15. What is TDS and will I have to continue to dump my water if my Total Dissolved Solids go over 1500 PPM?

No, not if the composition of your TDS is based upon the addition of salt to your water for your Salt Pure ® system. To understand your “true” TDS, subtract your PPM Salt from your TDS.

Since the salt required to operate is added directly to the pool water there is a rise in TDS levels; however, obviously, there is no increase in the contaminant levels in the pool. Also, since is a closed loop system (salt is converted to chlorine and reconverted back to salt) the TDS level does not continue to rise as it would in conventionally sanitized pools. The also continuously shocks (burns out, super chlorinates) organics and other contaminants so there is less chance for their buildup.

16. Will the Salt Pure® system cause additional corrosion in my facility?

No, it will not. In fact because the water will have less chloramines you will see reduced corrosion inside the building

Frequently Asked Questions SaltSynergy®

1.            What is SaltSynergy?

SaltSynergy is the coupling of a Salt Pure® system with a Low Pressure UV system

2.            How does it work?

The SP system provides the natural chlorine and the soft fresh feel of the water that has made this process so popular, and, at the same time, reduces the cost of running the pool while attracting bathers. The UV component, which is activated 24/7 completes the job by removing the remaining combined chlorine further enhancing the quality of the air and the water!

3.            What are your customers saying?

The response from our clients has been remarkable. a number have said that they HAVE ZERO COMBINED where they used to measure 0.6 PPM, most are telling us that the water in their spas requires less draining, and that the addition of these products has reduced maintenance time greatly

4 Is the installation difficult?

No but you will be required to have a licensed electrician on hand to ensure that the UV is “slaved” to the pools circulation pump

4.            What maintenance is required?

From time to time, depending on the bather load you will have to remove the Quartz sleeves from the Reactor and wipe them down; we estimate that this operation to be around 20 minutes in duration

5.            I have heard that UV systems are very expensive to purchase, maintain and repair?

You must have looked into Medium Pressure UV, which certainly are, our Low Pressure UV units are roughly half the cost to purchase and maintain, and they use about ½ the electrical consumption

6.            Are the Low Pressure units  as effective as the Medium Pressure?

For the purposes of removing combined chlorine yes they are,  tests have shown that both Low & Medium are capable of removing other water born pathogens that chlorine is not effective against, such as Crypto, but more tests in real swimming pools – not Labs – need to be conducted to gather more data. Chip Blatchley PhD from Purdue U, is currently carrying out these studies, and as information becomes available it will be posted on our site

Frequently Asked Questions TMI “lite

1.            What is TMI “lite”

TMI “lite” Commercial Chlorine generator  is designed for the light commercial pool from 10,000 gallons to 120,000 gallons, there are 2 size generators that are offered 2.75 pounds of chlorine production per day and 5 pounds. To keep the package affordable we couple the Chlorine Generators with a automated pH controller to ensure that pH is stable at all times.

2.            Why only a pH controller?

For two very sound reasons.. The first is that pH is the most important water chemistry level to keep stable, and it is the most difficult!! It is known that as your pH fluctuates so does the effectively of your chlorine, that is why Health Departments pay such close attention to your pH when inspecting your pools. The second reason is coat? wrapped up in complexity. The cost to purchase a full Chlorine and pH Chemistry controller would add around $4,000.00 to the price of TMI “lite”, and as important is the fact that ORP – Oxidation Reduction Potential – the measurement and calculation that drive the control of Chlorine is more complex than many light commercial Pool operators are prepared to embrace. TMI “lite” allows for the operator to manually turn the chlorine production up and down as required

3.            What else comes with the “lite” package.

We provide you with a Bondable Sacrificial anode, a one touch salinity meter and an optional commercial test kit

4.            Why the Anode?

WE believe that it is important to have the ability to recognize if there is stray current in the water, especially when adding additional salt for the Chlorine Generator

5 How difficult is the installation?

It is very simple, and should take one person 90 minutes to install each of the 2 components, should you choose to add a UV component you should add another 2 hours for completion. WE provide a step by step “Quick Guide” to walk you through the install process. Note that you will need to have an electrician do the AC voltage connections, and install the GFIC

5.            What is the UV component and do I need one?

The chlorine generator will remove between 40 and 60% of your combined chlorine, depending on your bather load and air movement system. If you either experience a high volume of bathers or have an old air circulation system, you should investigate the addition of a UV system

6.            Can I try out the “lite” system without the UV component and then add it if I find that I need to?

Yes you can but if you do think that you might want to allow for the UV addition be sure to mention this to your Finance person
