Construction of the Mel Korum Family YMCA was recently completed. This State of the Art facility is one of the largest YMCA's on the west coast, at 106,000 sf and a cost of about seventeen million. The Natatorium comprises four bodies of water including the Main pool ( 136,000 gallons), the Toddler Pool ( 18,000 gallons), the Family Pool (37,000 gallons) and the Spa at 5000 gallons.

 

Prior to breaking ground, our consulting engineer contacted TMI to look at the viability of using TMI Salt Pure® systems in the Mel Korum YMCA. We contacted and visited numerous Aquatic Facilities where this product was being used and met with representatives from the factory. Our team consisted of design engineers, architects and hydraulic consultants and all were consulted for their opinions. The only negativity we have encountered – towards this product – has been from the traditionalists in the pool industry who continue to predict problems in spite of our ongoing success.

 

Based on the results of our research, we commissioned TMI to install Salt Pure® systems on all 4 bodies of water along with the compatible Chemistry Controllers with remote modem monitoring capabilities. This was completed in January 2000 and the facility was open to the public early February 2000.

 

The YMCA is a member driven organization and I can quite frankly tell you that our members absolutely love this system. We have none of the usual complaints that are common in commercial aquatic facilities such as red eyes, itchy skin, strong chlorine odor etc etc. Word of mouth appreciation for the benefits of Salt Pure® water have brought us additional members that we did not anticipate.

 

Having seen this system in operation for 5 months now, and having confirmed with other facilities who have had Salt Pure® systems for longer periods of time, I am convinced that this kind of system is the future for commercial swimming pools. Once the public becomes familiar with Salt Pure® water they will accept nothing less. It is also much easier for the maintenance person and is cost-effective.
