College is located in the heart of downtown
Seattle .
As an engineer and Head of Maintenance, one of my responsibilities
is to over-see our indoor pool (30,000 galloons) and indoor spa (1,750
gallons). We had been using a combination of liquid chlorine and CO2
for both bodies of water;, we have been using Automatic Chemistry
Controllers also.
Very
few days went by when we were not battling with the controllers, water
chemistry, and swimmer complaints. Not only were the swimmers complaining,
but the dancers in the College Dance
School
directly above the pool- room were complaining also because their
eyes were stinging from the strong and rising chlorine odor.
One
of my staff members read an article in the Athletic Business Magazine
that profiled a company called TMI Salt Pure Corporation that
has a new method of sanitizing pools and spas using salt. At first
we were skeptical, but decided that it would do no harm to investigate
this option. We contacted and then visited the local athletic club
that had been using the system; based on their level of satisfaction
we asked TMI to draw up a proposal to convert our pool and spa to
"salt pure" water and to upgrade our controllers.
It
is difficult to contain my enthusiasm when I talk about the difference
that this system had made with our faculty! NO MORE complaints from
anyone and the swimmers loved the feel of the water! Our job maintaining
the pool and spa had been made easier and I estimate that we had reduced
the maintenance time by at least 75%. The dancers upstairs could hardly
tell that there was a pool and spa right under them!
We
used to spend $12- $15,000 a year on the pool and spa chemicals, now
we can see a big difference in our operating costs. Also, we would
have to dump our spa on a weekly basis, sometimes more. Now we find
our need to dump the spa has dropped to monthly. The Chemistry Controller
monitors, both pool and spa, do their job very well We seldom adjust
the settings for the pool and only adjust the spa settings when we
have to change the water.
I
would recommend that all commercial pool operators look into the TMI
Salt Pure System for their public or, even personal pools and spas.
